Civ addiction crippling. Can’t… create… comics! Gah!
So, I’m super excited. This is the point where I wanted to be, and now I can see the comic’s path stretched out in front of me and I can’t wait to update again. I mean, I can wait. Because I have to. Because we don’t have a backlog of anything but jotted down ideas and sketches. But if we HAD a backlog, I’d just be like, “Woo! Updates every day until there’s no backlog!” And then Zach would hit me really hard until I stopped managing the website.
Want a high res version of this and the other comics? They’re on Patreon for free! (For now. I think sketches are going to become free, and high-res files are going to become a reward for the “I gave absolutely anything” level.” But that’s a problem for after I get done with a marathon writing session.)
Welp, while trying to create a Civ V multiplayer modpack, I bricked my install. I am now currently redownloading the game. In the meantime, have a comic!
Show ’em how it’s done, Todd.
I feel like this may just be a stupid joke that we’re carrying too far, but I’m having too much fun with it to stop.
Rory is totally gonna help take down the lights.
So, we’ve overhauled the Patreon page completely. Check it out! There will be a lot of fun extras there–bonus art, character avatars, and later this month, a comic exclusively for patrons! Hope to see you over there.
Special thanks to Chris Rusche over at Shotgun Shuffle for helping me hammer out some dialogue issues, and generally being a good sport about listening to me yammer through most of a work day. =)
Psyched about the next handful of comics. We haven’t had tons of time to let the characters explore their curiosity about each other, and the result has been sort of a wide focus on the idea of getting ready to make a film–and now that they’re there, I can start experimenting with arcs that intertwine the personal stories into the story they’re working together to make.
Also, last week. It happened. It finally happened.
I played enough Civ.
Almost, anyway. Have you seen the 3rd & 4th Unique Component mods yet? They make the game a bit less balanced, but a lot more fun. Check this space for a modpack that lets you use them in multiplayer, if you haven’t already compiled one yourself. =)
I’m on a break at work updating the comic, so the blog post is going to come a bit later today. In the meantime–we’re both really happy with how today’s came out!
Of course, saying that a blog post is coming up later in the day implies, perhaps falsely, that I had something substantive to say.
I know that there are a ton of new readers hitting the comic lately, largely thanks to shout-outs from Girls with Slingshots and Shotgun Shuffle, both of which have fantastic creators. To all these new folk–howdy! Never be afraid to tell us what you’re think’n bout in the comments or on twitter. If I ignore you, it’s an accident. Zach and I are not used to having readers.
You know what’s a thing we’ve never had? Fan art. So let’s have a fan art drive! Got a doodle of a character of ours you like? Keep it rated R (or under, preferably) and I’ll post it up in the blog. =) I’ll also wink at you real pretty-like.
If three or more of you do fan art, we’ll have a vote next week. The highest voted artists, and the ones whose art we like the best will get included in the comic next week (or the week after) as extras, with a shout-out to any one thing* they like in the blog.
Tweet fanart to @RamenEmpire.
*Unless we hate it.
We’ll call the deadline a soft Monday.
So, we are both using new software today, and because of this, there’s no high res and therefore no print. Should be better next week!
We got exactly one Fan Art! This was submitted by one Chris Stonecipher. (That can’t possibly be his real name. I’m onto you, “Chris.”) It’s chibi Sera surrounded by other cast members, and I’m pleased as punch that someone sent us art! Think you can do better? Want to be in the comic? Art us!
So, I got a new laptop, because the monitor on my old laptop had physically separated itself from the body of the computer, and because my mother is a beautiful woman and some sort of enchanted shyster, I have managed to trade the aforementioned broken laptop for a new one.
Illustrator doesn’t work on the new box, so I’m back to lettering in Photoshop until I get back home. Blunt balloon tails for the loss. 🙁
I’m at work, so the print and other stuff will go up later today,
I can’t get illustrator or inkscape to work. More lettering in Photoshop. Sleepy.
